Jordan Bridge

Built 1937Howe Truss90 ft spanNRHP #87000025

Jordan Bridge is a 90-foot Howe truss covered bridge now spanning the Salem Power Canal near Stayton in Marion County, Oregon. Originally built in 1937 in Linn County, it was relocated in 1988 to its current site, where it continues to serve as a functioning covered bridge in a new community setting.

The bridge is one of only two surviving covered bridges in Marion County and is notable for its relocation history — a testament to the community's commitment to preserving its covered bridge heritage rather than allowing the structure to be demolished.

Jordan Bridge was originally constructed in 1937 in Linn County using the standard Howe truss design that had long been proven in Oregon's river valleys. The bridge served its original agricultural community for several decades before structural concerns and road improvements prompted its removal from active highway service.

Rather than demolish the bridge, local preservation advocates arranged for its relocation in 1988 to a new site spanning the Salem Power Canal near Stayton in Marion County. The move preserved both the physical structure and the regional covered bridge tradition.

The bridge has been maintained at its current location and continues to carry traffic, representing one of the relatively rare examples of a successfully relocated covered bridge in Oregon.
